About the author
An Introduction to – Leena Mathews
She is passionate about speaking on behalf of the voices that are generally marginalized: the Black and Brown communities, people who have to navigate the dynamics of being white-passing, the LGBTQ+ community, and the voices who have been suppressed or targeted unfairly. She writes not just to them, but also to her children and grandchildren, both of whom have their own heritages and difficulties.
When basic rights appear to be all the more vulnerable, Leena realizes that she is vulnerable herself. Nevertheless, she knows with all her heart that love is a fact that can never be weakened: love is daring, all-inclusive, and undying. Her first piece, Privilege and Promise, is an emotional piece that is deeply personal and sincerely tries to initiate an important conversation.
She loves to use her voice to represent the voices that are often marginalized: the Black and Brown community, individuals who have to deal with the forces of being white-passing, the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals whose voices are oppressed or targeted unjustly. She addresses them as well as her children and grandchildren who have also their own heritages and challenges.
As the fundamental rights seem more and more exposed, Leena understands that she is exposed as well. However, she strongly believes that love is an invincible reality: love is bold, encompassing, and lasting. Her debut work, Privilege and Promise, is an emotional work that is deeply personal and is a genuine attempt to start an important conversation.
